A woman health worker on her way home from work was attacked by two bike-borne assailants late on Monday night with the intention of robbery, but they then tried to abduct her as she did not have any valuables on her, police said. The incident occurred as the woman was returning home from the hospital where she works, police said on Tuesday.

The assailants, who gave chase when she resisted their attempts to abduct her, fled when they saw an approaching police patrolling vehicle, the Station House Officer of Thrikunnapuzha PS, where a case of robbery has been filed, told PTI.

The officer said that the police vehicle stayed with the woman till her relatives arrived at the scene and thereafter, searched the area till 5 AM for the assailants.

He said the victim did not suffer any major physical injuries in the attack, but was traumatised by the incident.

He also said CCTV footage from the area was being examined to identify the assailants and also the registration number of their ''new generation'' bike.

He further said that the victim's statement was recorded during the day.

Meanwhile, the victim's family told some news channels that police did not chase the assailants, nor did they take her to the hospital.

However, the SHO said no such grievances were communicated to it by the victim or her family.

The officer also said that since the woman did not say she needed medical help, the patrolling vehicle did not take her to a hospital.

The officers in the vehicle stayed with her till her family members reached the place, he added.
