'Lekhpal' arrested for accepting bribe in UP’s Muzaffarnagar

A 'lekhpal' (accountant) of the Uttar Pradesh land department was arrested by the state anti-corruption bureau while allegedly accepting a bribe, an official said on Wednesday.

Janeshwar had allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 from farmer Parvez Alam for making some corrections in his land records, ACB officer Ashok Kumar said.

He was caught red-handed on Tuesday in the Civil Lines area while accepting Rs 20,000 as the first installment, Kumar added.
