The Kerala government on Thursday allocated Rs 50 crore as financial assistance to the fisherfolk families which lost working days due to inclement weather warning.
A cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, took a decision to sanction Rs 50.027 crore from the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) for the families who had lost jobs due to the warning about cyclones, Fisheries Minister Saji Cheriyan said here.
Fishermen had lost 15 working days in the months of April, May, July and August last year due to inclement weather warning, he said.
As many as 1,66,756 fishermen and allied families would get Rs 3,000 each at the rate of Rs 200 per working day, the minister said in a statement.
Similar financial assistance had been granted to the fishermen community by the state government earlier during the time of cyclone Tauktae, he added.
