A 28-year-old man, who worked as a junior engineer in Indian Railways, was arrested for allegedly raping a woman on the pretext of marriage, police said on Monday. According to the police, a 24-year-old woman came in contact with Vipin Karpanter on a matrimonial website in June 2022. They both remained in touch till September. It has been alleged that the accused established physical relations with the woman on several occasions after obtaining her consent on a false promise of marriage, a senior police officer said. A case under section 376 (punishment for rape) of the IPC has been registered at the Shakarpur police station and the accused was arrested on Friday, the officer said. Karpanter, a resident of Rajgarh in Madhya Pradesh, is married and has two children, police said.
