Norway grid operator curbs capacity on power cable to Britain

Norwegian transmission grid operator Statnett is limiting capacity on the North Sea Link interconnector to Britain to 1,100 megawatt, matching limitations on the British side, it said on Thursday.

North Sea Link has an installed capacity of 1,400 MW, but limitations on the British side had shown over time that the allocated capacity has been higher from Norway to Britain than the other way round, Statnett said.

"To ensure optimal utilisation of the interconnectors, a good balance between capacity for import and export is essential," Statnett CEO Hilde Tonne said in a statement.
