UK eurosceptic Conservatives: 'Stormont brake" in new Brexit deal 'practically useless'

An influential group of eurosceptic Conservative lawmakers on Tuesday warned that the newly agreed 'Stormont brake" mechanism to prevent Northern Ireland being subject to unwelcome European Union laws was "practically useless".

The European Research Group will meet on Wednesday to decide whether to back the new deal, which was announced by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak last month as a solution to long-running post-Brexit trade problems relating to the British province.
