U.S. government-facilitated convoys have assisted over 700 in Sudan

U.S. government-facilitated convoys have successfully enabled groups of U.S. citizens, their family members and nationals from partner countries to arrive safely in Port Sudan since Saturday, State Department deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel said on Monday, adding the convoys have assisted over 700 people.

Patel told reporters that further convoys will depend on the security situation. Hundreds of people have been killed and thousands wounded over 16 days of battles since disputes between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) erupted into conflict on April 15.
