A case was registered after a drone was Friday used for aerial photography or videography of the Maharashtra Police Academy, a top-level training facility of the state police, at Trimbak Road here, an official said.

Assistant Inspector S R Sabale of Gangapur police station Saturday said that the drone was seen at a height of 200-300 feet above the MPA premises at around 8am Friday.

"The drone, a little later, moved away towards Mahatma Nagar locality, very close to the MPA campus, and then disappeared," he said. He informed that Gangapur police station had got no request for shooting using drones from any group or individual and nor were any permissions granted for the day.

"It is an offence to use a drone for shooting without permission from relevant authorities including police, and that too of sensitive installations like the MPA. A case has been registered against unknown person/s and further probe was underway," investigating officer Sabale said.

According to officials, the state CID has also started a parallel probe into the incident.
