Locals to prevent forest fire in Himachal's Hamirpur

As per the order, all capable male residents of all villages in the Hamirpur district will be responsible for protecting, patrolling and monitoring forest wealth and other public properties and facilities in rural areas adjoining their villages.The District Magistrate said these orders would remain in force for six months.This order comes as pine forests in the area tend to catch fire during the summer months, causing loss to the government and private properties.Meanwhile, the forest department has also begun preparations to save forests from fires by appointing more staff and creating fire lines around the forests.

The administration here has delegated the responsibility of protecting the forests and other public properties from fire incidents in rural areas during the summer season, officials said on Saturday. The District Magistrate Amarjit Singh issued a special order under section 3 of the Himachal Pradesh Village and Small Town Patrol Act 1964, they said.
