Germany Monitors Russian Baltic Sea Border Proposal

The German government is closely observing a Russian proposal to alter the Baltic Sea border. The foreign ministry highlighted the necessity of consensus among neighboring states for such changes, in accordance with international law.

The German government acknowledges media reports of a Russian proposal to change its Baltic Sea border, a foreign ministry spokesperson said in Berlin on Wednesday, but said it was unclear what was meant with the change.

"Of course we are observing the situation closely," the spokesperson told a regular press conference, adding that international law required a consensus among all affected neighbouring states before any border can be changed.
