A 48-year-old man from Kerala has been sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment for the aggravated sexual assault of his 14-year-old daughter. The Fast Track Special Court in Thiruvananthapuram, presided by Judge R Rekha, handed down the sentence, mandating seven years each for two severe crimes under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) R S Vijay Mohan confirmed that the man would serve seven years, the longest of the concurrent sentences. Alongside imprisonment, a fine of Rs 20,000 was imposed on the convict. The court further directed the District Legal Services Authority to ensure adequate compensation for the victim.

According to the prosecution, the abuse began in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdowns. The victim finally confided in her school friends, who informed the teachers, leading to the father's arrest. The court noted the man's heinous exploitation of his daughter's helplessness and ruled out any leniency.
