Mob In Pak Murders Man Over Quran Desecration Allegation

In Swat, Pakistan, a man accused of Quran desecration was killed by a mob. Eight people were injured. The mob, demanding the suspect from police custody, set a police station on fire and killed the accused. Heavy police presence aims to control the situation, as directed by the Chief Minister.

In the scenic Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northwest Pakistan, a man who allegedly desecrated the Holy Quran was killed by an enraged mob, leaving eight others injured in the unrest, police reported.

District Police Officer Zahidullah noted that the man from Sialkot allegedly burned pages of the Holy Quran on Thursday night in Madyan tehsil. The suspect was detained and brought to the Madyan police station, where a mob demanded his handover. When police refused, the mob opened fire, prompting police retaliation that left one person seriously injured and hospitalized in Madyan.

The situation escalated as the mob set the police station ablaze, subsequently entering the premises, shooting the suspect, dragging his body to Madyan Adda, and hanging it there. Eight people were injured due to the disturbances that followed. Heavy police deployment has been ordered in Madyan to stabilize the situation, with Chief Minister KPK Ali Amin Gandapur requesting a detailed report and instructing the police chief to take urgent control measures, urging public calm and peace.
