Mamata Banerjee's Strong Stand on Teesta Water Talks

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday addressed a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, raising strong objections to the Centre bypassing the state in discussions with Bangladesh about Teesta water sharing and the Farakka Treaty.

Banerjee implored the Prime Minister to refrain from engaging in any talks with the neighboring nation on these issues without West Bengal's participation.

In her detailed three-page letter, Banerjee referred to the recent visit of Bangladesh's Prime Minister and the potential discussions on water sharing of the Ganges and Teesta rivers. She labeled these unilateral discussions as unacceptable and undesirable, stressing West Bengal's close ties with Bangladesh and the paramount importance of state involvement in such crucial matters.
