Tripura's Massive Panchayat Elections Set for August

A total of 12.90 lakh voters are set to participate in the upcoming three-tier panchayat elections in Tripura, scheduled for August. According to State Election Commissioner Sardhindu Chowdhury, the finalized electoral list includes 6.58 lakh men, 6.35 lakh women, and 11 transgender individuals. The official schedule will be announced by the first week of July.

The northeastern state of Tripura is poised to conduct its three-tier panchayat elections in August, with an extensive electorate of 12.90 lakh voters, an official confirmed on Monday.

State Election Commissioner Sardhindu Chowdhury revealed that the electoral rolls comprise 6.58 lakh men, 6.35 lakh women, and 11 from the transgender community. The state is divided into 591 gram panchayats with 6,111 seats, 116 panchayat samities with 419 seats, and eight zilla parishads with 116 seats.

During a month-long revision period, the State Election Commission addressed and resolved a total of 2,056 claims and 2,838 objections related to the draft electoral rolls. The commission has approached the state government for its opinion on conducting the elections and is expected to announce the schedule by early July.
