The Delhi High Court has directed the Centre to consider relocating Ghazipur and Bhalswa dairies to safer sites outside the city, citing their hazardous location next to landfill sites. The court criticized city authorities for failing to improve the dire and unhygienic conditions of the dairies.
Pulling up municipal officials, the court noted that they have been misleading and evasive. A bench led by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan highlighted the involvement of the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) and emphasized that officers appear disconnected from reality.
Justice Manmohan warned that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Delhi government would be held responsible for the costs and public inconvenience caused by the dairy relocations. The bench also underscored the long-term health consequences for the city's residents if the issue is not addressed promptly.
