Union Minister George Kurian on Sunday visited notable Sunni Muslim leader Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musaliyar in Kozhikode to deliberate on issues concerning the minority community.
This marked Minister Kurian's inaugural visit to the city since taking office in the current Narendra Modi administration.
During the meeting, Kurian, the Minister of State for Minority Affairs, and Musaliyar discussed various challenges faced by minority groups. Musaliyar highlighted the community's concerns and requested actions to address them, particularly the cancellation of the five-year Maulana Azad National Fellowship in November 2022, a scheme initiated in 2009.
Expressing his hope for positive changes, Musaliyar underscored Kurian's extensive experience, notably his tenure as vice-chairman of the National Minority Commission. Kurian reassured that the union government's mission is to promote the welfare of all societal segments, pledging attention to minority issues.
