The Indian Navy has joined the ongoing search and rescue operation for Joy, a sanitation worker who was swept away while cleaning the Amayizhanchan canal in Thiruvananthapuram. Efforts by the NDRF, police, and fire force have so far failed to locate him.
Thiruvananthapuram City Corporation Mayor Arya Rajendran announced that the Navy would commence operations using sonar equipment on Monday morning. Joy went missing on Saturday when heavy rainfall caused the canal's water flow to increase, sweeping him into a tunnel below the central railway station. Despite relentless efforts, including the use of scuba divers, no progress has been made.
A blame game has erupted between municipal and railway authorities. Railway officials claim the waste comes from the city, while the city corporation insists the Railway failed to maintain proper waste disposal. The conflict has drawn criticism from political leaders, with opposition accusing the government of negligence.
