ASI Submits Bhojshala-Kamal-Maula Mosque Survey Report

The Archaeological Survey of India handed over a detailed scientific survey report of the disputed Bhojshala-Kamal-Maula mosque complex to the Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. This monument is contested by Hindus and Muslims, each claiming it as a temple and a mosque respectively. The HC will hear the case soon.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has submitted its comprehensive scientific survey report on the contentious Bhojshala-Kamal-Maula mosque complex to the Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

ASI's counsel, Himanshu Joshi, confirmed the submission of the report, which spans more than 2,000 pages.

The High Court is set to hear the case on July 22, following its July 4 order to present the complete report by July 15. The ASI conducted the nearly three-month-long survey as per the court’s directive stemming from a petition by the Hindu Front for Justice.

The Bhojshala-Kamal-Maula site is an 11th-century structure claimed by Hindus as the temple of Vagdevi (Goddess Saraswati) and by Muslims as the Kamal Maula mosque.

An order from April 7, 2003, allows Hindus to worship on Tuesdays and Muslims to offer namaz on Fridays, an arrangement now challenged in court.
