The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed an FIR against former Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC) chairman Taman Singh Sonwani and others over an alleged nepotism racket. The ex-chairman and other officials reportedly recruited ineligible family members for lucrative government jobs during the Congress rule.

CGPSC's former chairperson Sonwani, ex-Secretary Jeevan Kishore Dhruv, and a controller of examination are accused of manipulating scores in the merit list to ensure their relatives’ recruitment as deputy collectors, deputy SPs, and other such positions. Allegations center on the 2022 CGPSC examination, the results of which were declared in May 2023.

The CBI, acting on a reference from the Chhattisgarh government, took over the investigation from the state police's Economic Offences Wing. Searches were conducted at the residential premises of the accused in Raipur and Bhilai. The FIR highlights that high-ranking government officials and politicians, including relatives of several Congress members, were primary beneficiaries of the corrupt practices.
