An unprecedented attack by the Islamic State (ISIS) occurred near the Imam Ali Mosque in Oman's capital, Muscat, killing six individuals. The deceased include one Indian national, a policeman, and four Pakistani nationals, with 28 more injured.
The incident unfolded on Monday night, as the attackers opened fire near the Shia Muslim mosque. The Indian Embassy in Muscat confirmed the casualties via a social media post, offering condolences and assistance to the affected families.
Security forces neutralized the three attackers during the altercation in the al-Wadi al-Kabir area. ISIS has frequently targeted Shia communities in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, but this attack is their first in Oman.
