A community club in Ushabazar, West Tripura, was demolished on Wednesday for being constructed on government land, according to officials.
The club's secretary, Durga Prasanna Deb, known as Vikki, was allegedly shot dead on April 30 due to a feud over government contracts. During the investigation, authorities found involvement of some club members and discovered the club was built on unauthorized land.
District Magistrate Vishal Kumar stated that a notice was issued to the club regarding the illegal construction, but an unsatisfactory response led to its demolition by the deadline of July 15. The government plans to establish a public health center at the site, adhering to a zero-tolerance policy against land mafias and similar illegal activities. The prime suspect, Raju Barman, a former secretary of the club, was recently arrested in Guwahati.
