The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a plea filed by two convicts in the Bilkis Bano case, who were challenging a January 8 verdict that canceled their remission.
A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Sanjay Kumar described the plea as 'absolutely misconceived' and stated that they could not sit in appeal over another bench's decision.
Advocate Rishi Malhotra, representing convicts Radheyshaym Bhagwandas Shah and Rajubhai Babulal Soni, was given permission to withdraw the plea. Shah has also sought interim bail. In March, both convicts had moved the top court, arguing that the January 8 verdict contradicted a 2002 constitution bench order and requested a larger bench for final adjudication.
