Tragic Drone Attack on Historic Monastery in Russia's Kursk Region
A Ukrainian drone attack on St. Nicholas Belogorsky Monastery in Russia's Kursk region resulted in the death of a 60-year-old parishioner. The incident is part of ongoing assaults from Kyiv on Russian border towns. The monastery, founded in 1671, also has historical ties with writer Fyodor Dostoevsky.
A Ukrainian drone struck a monastery in Russia's Kursk region on Friday, resulting in the death of one person, according to the regional governor Alexei Smirnov on the Telegram app.
The Mash Telegram channel reported that a 60-year-old male parishioner died around 0830 local time after a drone fired eight projectiles at the St. Nicholas Belogorsky Monastery in the village of Gornal, near the Ukrainian border. There was no immediate comment from Ukrainian authorities, and Reuters could not independently verify the attack.
Kursk, like other Russian border regions, frequently experiences attacks from Kyiv's forces. On Tuesday, a drone attack targeted a factory producing electrical devices in Korenevo, causing a fire but no injuries. The men's monastery, founded in 1671, once hosted the writer Fyodor Dostoevsky, who immortalized his conversations with the monks in his novel "The Brothers Karamazov," according to its website.
In a previous attack last August, a child was injured at the same monastery, as per Mash reports.
