The attack occurred at a police post in the Takhtbhai tehsil, Mardan district. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur denounced the violence and called for a thorough investigation.

In a separate tragic event, a remote-controlled bomb exploded earlier in the day in the Wana bazaar, South Waziristan, killing one and injuring four. The targeted vehicle belonged to Commander Ghainullah of the Mullah Nazir Group.
