The Karnataka government is taking swift action to address the ongoing flood crisis caused by heavy monsoon rains. Since June, the state has experienced 22% more rainfall than usual, leading to widespread flooding and landslides, according to Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda.
Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, Gowda confirmed that relief measures are in full swing despite protests from BJP and JD(S) over alleged financial mismanagement in a state-run corporation. 'We had advance warnings about above-average rainfalls this year and have accordingly prepared. Already, 447 mm of rainfall has been recorded, which is significantly above the expected 365 mm,' he stated.
The minister reported that 29 care centers have been established, offering shelter to 2,332 people. The government has allocated Rs 777.54 crore for relief work, with promises of additional funds if necessary. Five National Disaster Response Force platoons are actively deployed in six districts to manage the situation effectively.
