Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind Chief Condemns Controversial Order on Kanwar Yatra

Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind chief Maulana Arshad Madani criticized the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments' order requiring eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to display owners' names as discriminatory and communal. Madani warned that this move threatens communal harmony and violates constitutional rights. The Jamiat plans to examine the legality of this directive.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind chief Maulana Arshad Madani has labeled the recent orders by the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments as 'discriminatory and communal.' The directive requires all eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to display their owners’ names.

Madani argued that the decision is part of a 'new game of politics under the guise of religion' and warned that it would foster anti-national sentiments. He stressed that communal harmony could be severely impacted and that the order violates citizens’ fundamental rights as outlined in the Constitution.

In response, the Jamiat has called a legal team meeting to scrutinize the order’s constitutionality. Madani also noted that Muslims have historically supported Kanwar pilgrims, making the directive unprecedented and discriminatory.
