Forest and Environment Ministry Gets New Leader in Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav appointed Ramniwas Rawat, a former Congress MLA who joined BJP, as the new Minister for Forest and Environment. Rawat's induction into the cabinet took place on July 8, marking a significant reshuffle after the BJP secured all 29 seats in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

In a major reshuffle, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday assigned the forest and environment portfolio to newly inducted cabinet minister Ramniwas Rawat. The move follows Rawat's swearing-in on July 8, where he took on his new role. Rawat, who formerly served as a Congress MLA, recently switched allegiance to the ruling BJP during the Lok Sabha poll campaign.

A notification released on Sunday confirmed Rawat's new responsibilities. Previously, the forest and environment ministry was headed by cabinet minister Nagar Singh Chouhan, who also oversaw the tribal welfare department. This shake-up in the cabinet was part of an expansion coinciding with Rawat’s induction.

Rawat has a political journey marked by six terms as an MLA from Vijaypur in the Sheopur district. His transition to the BJP was publicly made during a poll rally on April 30, though he delayed confirming his departure from the Congress until after the elections. Following his oath-taking, Rawat disclosed he resigned as a Congress MLA on July 5. The BJP's recent landslide victory in the state, capturing all 29 Lok Sabha seats, adds a significant backdrop to these developments.
