The Haryana government on Sunday ordered the suspension of mobile internet and bulk SMS services in Nuh district for 24 hours ahead of the Braj Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra. The event was marred by violence last year, which resulted in six deaths, including two home guards and a cleric of a Gurugram mosque.
Nuh Deputy Commissioner Dhirendra Khadgata assured that security has been tightened to ensure a peaceful event. 'The situation is very peaceful, cordial ahead of the Yatra, and both communities (Hindus and Muslims) are ready to welcome it,' Khadgata told PTI over the phone. Welcome gates and food stalls have been set up for procession participants.
Authorities have coordinated 100 volunteers to assist the police along the yatra route and will deploy drones from Nuh's Nalhar temple to Singar via Jhir temple. Internet services will be suspended from 6 pm Sunday to 6 pm Monday, as per an order by Haryana Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Anurag Rastogi.
The suspension aims to prevent the spread of misinformation and rumors through social media, as stated in the order informed by Additional DGP-CID, Haryana, and a Deputy Commissioner. The BJP government faced sharp criticism from opposition parties over last year's violence.
