Singapore announced on Monday its commitment to sending a fourth tranche of humanitarian aid to Gaza, pushing the country's total donations to over USD 12.7 million. This latest tranche, comprising approximately 300 tonnes of halal-certified canned sardines and 1,000 tonnes of white rice, will be shipped from Singapore to Larnaca, Cyprus, before reaching Gaza.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the transportation of essential supplies is being coordinated with the UAE and Cyprus. Earlier this month, the United Nations highlighted that famine had spread throughout Gaza as the protracted conflict between Israel and the militant group Hamas continues.
Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan emphasized that Singapore is closely examining the International Court of Justice's advisory opinion on Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territories. He reiterated that Singapore views these settlements as illegal under international law and asserts that they hinder the possibility of a negotiated two-state solution.
