Jimmy Lai's Trial Proceeds: Prosecution Presents Prima Facie Evidence

A Hong Kong court on Thursday dismissed an attempt by the legal team for jailed democrat Jimmy Lai to halt his national security trial, stating that prosecutors had provided sufficient prima facie evidence for the trial to proceed.

Three national security judges ruled that Lai, 76, has a case to answer in this landmark trial, which could result in a life sentence if he is convicted.

Lai has pleaded not guilty to two charges that carry a possible life sentence: conspiracy to collude with foreign forces and a lesser charge of conspiracy to publish seditious material.
