Convicted Shooter Appeals Case in Oslo LGBTQ+ Bar Attack

Zaniar Matapour, an Iranian-born Norwegian man convicted of murder and terrorism for a deadly shooting at an Oslo gay bar in 2022, has appealed his case, according to a victims' lawyer on Thursday. The 45-year-old was found guilty by an Oslo court this month, described as a radicalised Islamist with a history of mental illness.

During Oslo's annual Pride celebrations, Matapour's shooting spree resulted in the deaths of two people, nine gunshot injuries, and 25 other injuries at the London Pub and a nearby bar. Lawyer Hege Salomonsen stated that victims are disappointed, hoping for legal closure.

Matapour's lawyer, Marius Dietrichson, could not be reached for comment when contacted by Reuters on Thursday.
