No Mandatory Paid Menstrual Leave Plans, Says Government

The Women and Child Development Ministry has confirmed that there is no plan to make paid menstrual leave mandatory for all workplaces. Minister Annapurna Devi clarified this in the Lok Sabha, noting that the focus remains on the Scheme for Promotion of Menstrual Hygiene for adolescent girls aged 10-19.

The government has stated that there is currently no plan to make paid menstrual leave mandatory for all workplaces. This announcement came from the Women and Child Development Ministry on Friday.

Responding to a question in the Lok Sabha, Minister Annapurna Devi emphasized that their current focus is on promoting menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls aged 10-19 years. 'At present, there is no proposal under consideration of the Government to make provision for paid menstrual leave mandatory for all workplaces,' she said in a written response.

The Scheme for Promotion of Menstrual Hygiene among girls in the specified age group remains the primary initiative of the ministry concerning menstrual wellness.
