India Takes Over Chair of Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre for 2024-25
India has assumed the Chair of the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC) for 2024-25. Rajendra Singh from the National Disaster Management Authority will lead the organization, taking over from China. India aims to bolster global Disaster Risk Reduction initiatives, exemplified by the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.

India has assumed the role of Chair of the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC) for the term 2024-25. The official statement from the Union Home Ministry announced that Rajendra Singh, a Member & Head of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), took over the position from the People's Republic of China on Thursday in Bangkok, Thailand.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has been at the forefront of global and regional Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) efforts. Noteworthy among these initiatives is the establishment of the international Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI).
Founded by India alongside Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Thailand, ADPC continues to be a pivotal organization in building climate resilience in Asia and the Pacific region. India also chaired the 5th Board of Trustee meeting of ADPC on July 25, 2024, in Bangkok, reinforcing its commitment to disaster preparedness and mitigation.
