Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada, the co-founder of Mexico's notorious Sinaloa drug cartel, is scheduled for an initial appearance in federal court in El Paso, Texas, at 8 a.m. MDT (1400 GMT) on Friday, according to the court's website.

Zambada's lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
