Paul Mashatile Outlines GNU’s Vision for Inclusive and Equitable SA at UJ Conference

In his keynote address during the conference co-hosted by UJ and the National School of Government (NSG), Mashatile outlined the GNU’s strategic priorities for the next five years.

Deputy President Paul Mashatile reiterated the Government of National Unity's (GNU) commitment to advancing a common agenda aimed at fostering a more equitable and just South Africa. Speaking at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) on Friday, Mashatile emphasized the National Development Plan 2030 as the cornerstone for guiding the administration's developmental strategies.

In his keynote address during the conference co-hosted by UJ and the National School of Government (NSG), Mashatile outlined the GNU's strategic priorities for the next five years. These priorities include driving inclusive economic growth, creating jobs, and optimizing the social wage, alongside building a capable, ethical, and developmental state.

The Deputy President underscored the administration's focus on enhancing fixed capital investment, advancing industrialization, and transforming the lives of citizens. He stressed the importance of investing in education, skills development, and quality healthcare to improve community infrastructure and services.

Mashatile also called for active collaboration across all sectors of society to ensure the stability and effectiveness of the state. He described the GNU as a coalition united by a common purpose and emphasized the need for a substantive national dialogue to address pressing issues affecting many South Africans, particularly the impoverished.

The Deputy President highlighted the importance of developing a robust strategy for economic transformation, which he believes will positively impact poverty, inequality, and unemployment. He urged attendees to provide actionable solutions that will harness South Africa's potential to become a leading global civilization.

Emphasizing the role of accountability in policy implementation, Mashatile stressed the necessity of translating policies into tangible results through meticulous planning and execution. As South Africa reflects on 30 years of democracy, he reminded the audience of the progress made since the end of apartheid and the ongoing challenges.

International guest speaker Dr. Ra'ed BenShams, an expert in public administration and management, shared insights on public sector reform and its role in addressing inequality and building social cohesion. Using the analogy of a new river system formed by merging streams, BenShams illustrated the concept of a coalition government and stressed the need for effective communication and collaboration with diverse communities to ensure efficient service delivery.

BenShams highlighted the importance of tolerance and embracing cultural diversity while focusing on providing essential services, such as clean water, to all citizens. His remarks underscored the collective responsibility to serve the people and foster a unified and hopeful future.
