Six persons have been booked for brutally beating a pregnant horse tethered on the premises of a local temple in South Kerala, according to police reports on Sunday.
The disturbing incident occurred on Thursday and garnered widespread public attention after CCTV footage went viral on social media.
In the visuals, a man can be seen restraining the horse, which is five months pregnant, while five others attack it using hands, feet, and sticks.
A medical examination revealed the animal sustained multiple injuries and swelling across its body.
Following the video's circulation, several individuals, including the state Minister for Animal Husbandry J Chinchu Rani, have strongly criticized the attackers.
''The incident has brought disgrace to our cultural society and the entire state. Stringent action will be taken against the culprits,'' the minister stated on Sunday.
