The Bombay High Court on Monday imposed a Rs 4 crore fine on Patanjali Ayurved Ltd for allegedly violating a 2023 interim order restricting the sale of its camphor products in a trademark infringement case filed by Mangalam Organics Ltd.

Justice R I Chagla, presiding over a single bench, observed that Patanjali acted with 'wilful and deliberate' disregard for the court's order. The court was convinced that Patanjali had intentionally flouted the directive.

The court resolved the petition by Mangalam Organics Ltd, seeking contempt action against Patanjali for continuing to sell its camphor products despite the court order. Justice Chagla ordered Patanjali to deposit Rs 4 crore within two weeks, in addition to an earlier Rs 50 lakh payment mandated by the court.
