Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud on Monday underscored the immense satisfaction judges get from helping litigants resolve disputes amicably.
Addressing the Press Trust of India at the commencement of a special Lok Adalat session, marking the 75th anniversary of the Supreme Court, CJI Chandrachud shared his experiences. He recounted how an estranged couple reconciled during a pre-Lok Adalat sitting, highlighting the significance of such alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. The special week-long Lok Adalat aims to facilitate the amicable settlement of suitable pending cases.
'Ultimately, the greatest satisfaction for us as judges is when we help parties resolve their disputes,' Justice Chandrachud remarked. No appeals can be filed against mutually accepted settlements enforced by Lok Adalat.
