Former President Donald Trump has agreed to sit for an FBI interview as the bureau investigates 20-year-old Thomas Crooks’ assassination attempt on him at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Police identified Crooks as a suspicious person, who was later seen using a rangefinder and browsing news sites.
Donald Trump, former President and Republican presidential candidate, has agreed to sit for an interview with the FBI. The bureau continues its investigation into what motivated 20-year-old Thomas Crooks to attempt an assassination on Trump during a recent campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
In an interview aired on Fox News, Trump confirmed, "They're coming in on Thursday to see me." According to FBI officials, a local officer identified Crooks as a suspicious individual over an hour before the July 13 shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania, and shared his photo with other law enforcement officers at the scene.
Special Agent Kevin Rojek reported that Crooks, seen carrying a backpack before the incident, was ultimately caught on a police dashboard camera walking on a roof from where he fired shots at Trump. Crooks' motives remain unidentified, though he had conducted online searches related to mass shootings and explosive devices. The FBI described Crooks as a loner with a long-standing interest in science experiments, which did not alarm his family.
