Thousands of Palestinians streamed back to their ravaged homes in Khan Younis, Gaza Strip, on Tuesday after Israeli forces concluded a week-long incursion aimed at obstructing Hamas militants. The operation left behind a trail of destruction and death, with health officials reporting 42 bodies recovered so far and numerous others missing.

The Israeli military claimed it targeted militant tunnels and seized weapons, killing over 150 Palestinian gunmen during the raid. Despite hopes for peace, continued clashes and failed mediation efforts perpetuate an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among Gaza residents.

Efforts to establish a ceasefire have repeatedly faltered, with Hamas demanding an end to the war and Israeli leadership insisting cessation is contingent upon Hamas's defeat.
