The Carter Center reported that it could not verify the results of Venezuela's presidential election due to a 'complete lack of transparency' in declaring Nicolas Maduro as the winner.
According to a statement from the Atlanta-based organization, the election 'did not meet international standards of electoral integrity and cannot be considered democratic.'
Starting on June 29, the Carter Center deployed 17 experts and observers to four major cities in Venezuela to monitor the election process.
