Mumbai Police Crack Down on Mobile Phone Theft Ring

Mumbai police's crime branch arrested five individuals from Govandi area, busting a mobile phone theft ring. Over 100 stolen handsets and a mobile shop owner aiding in changing IMEI numbers were seized. The phones were intended for resale in Bangladesh and Nepal. Further investigation is ongoing.

The crime branch of Mumbai police has dismantled a mobile phone theft ring with the arrest of five individuals from the Govandi area, an official revealed on Wednesday.

According to the police, all the apprehended individuals were residents of the Shivaji Nagar locality. Among those arrested was a mobile shop owner who allegedly facilitated the gang by altering the IMEI numbers of stolen phones.

These altered phones were then planned to be sold to second-hand handset dealers in Bangladesh and Nepal. The police have recovered more than 100 stolen handsets and have stated that further investigations are currently underway.
