Former CNPC Chairman Expelled for Corruption

China's ruling Communist Party has expelled Wang Yilin, the former chairman and party secretary of the state-owned China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC), for multiple discipline violations, state media reported on Wednesday.

According to a report by state-run CCTV, Wang unlawfully accepted high-value assets and goods. He used his position to help others seek benefits in project contracting and business operations. Additionally, he accepted travel arrangements from private entrepreneurs on several occasions.

Wang's case will be transferred to prosecutors for investigation, the report stated. CNPC has expressed firm support for the decision, emphasizing the Party's "zero-tolerance" approach to corruption. Wang, who stepped down from CNPC in January 2020, was under investigation for a "serious violation of law and discipline" as of February.
