In a tragic incident on Thursday morning, an Indian fisherman lost his life and another went missing following a collision between a Sri Lankan naval vessel and an Indian boat five nautical miles north of Katchatheevu Island, as reported by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

India has expressed its 'shock and anguish' over the 'unfortunate' loss of life. The Sri Lankan acting high commissioner was summoned to the MEA, and a strong protest was lodged regarding the incident.

The collision involved four Indian fishermen. While one fisherman unfortunately died and another remains missing, two have been rescued and safely brought ashore to Kankesanthurai.

The MEA stated that a search operation for the missing fisherman is ongoing. Indian Consulate Officials in Jaffna have been dispatched to Kankesanthurai to assist the fishermen and their families.

India's High Commissioner in Colombo is also expected to raise the matter with the Sri Lankan government as further diplomatic steps are considered.
