The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches on Thursday at multiple locations in the Thanjavur and Tiruchirapalli districts, investigating the killing of PMK functionary Ramalingam a few years ago. According to police sources, six places in Kumbakonam, Thanjavur district, were searched since morning.

During the operations, NIA officials seized laptops and mobile phones. Ramalingam, who served as the Kumbakonam town secretary of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), was hacked to death in 2019, allegedly by members and office bearers of the now-banned Popular Front of India (PFI), who had conspired the attack.

Several members of the banned outfit have been apprehended in relation to the case.
