US Demands Accountability from India Over Foiled Assassination Attempt
The United States expects India to be accountable for the alleged involvement of an Indian government employee in the failed assassination of an American citizen last summer. The concerns are being addressed at senior levels by US officials, who continue to seek accountability.
The United States continues to demand accountability from India regarding the alleged involvement of an Indian government employee in the attempted assassination of an American citizen on US soil last summer, an official disclosed.
"We continue to expect accountability from the Indian government concerning the alleged role of their employee in the foiled assassination attempt on a US citizen that transpired last summer," emphasized State Department Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel during a daily press briefing.
Patel further stated that US officials are actively communicating their concerns to Indian authorities at high levels. However, he declined to comment on reports alleging that Canadian authorities arrested five Indian nationals for plotting to target a Sikh separatist at a wedding in Canada.
"Regarding the Canadian news you referenced, we advise contacting Canadian authorities for information on their law enforcement matters," he added.
Patel reiterated that the US remains committed to raising this issue with the Indian government. In November, US federal prosecutors charged Indian national Nikhil Gupta and an Indian government employee with planning the assassination of Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in New York. Gupta was arrested in the Czech Republic in June last year and extradited to the US on June 14.
