Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday vehemently defended the Modi government against opposition allegations of being anti-farmer. Chouhan accused Congress of having anti-farmer policies embedded in its DNA.
Responding to a debate on his ministry's function in the Rajya Sabha, Chouhan noted that the central government has significantly increased the agriculture budget over the past decade. He emphasized that farmers benefit from highly subsidized fertilizers and assured continuous support from the government.
Highlighting the administration's commitments, the minister underscored six priorities including increasing agricultural production, lowering input costs, and ensuring remunerative prices for farmers. Chouhan also reiterated that the government welcomes viable input from opposition parties and considers farmers as 'God,' refuting claims of insufficient support on MSP procurements.
