NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma on Friday placed the blame for the deaths of 14 inmates at the Asha Kiran shelter home on the AAP government, calling for accountability from Delhi Minister Atishi in the matter.

Asha Kiran, a facility under the Delhi government's Social Welfare department, lacks a department head following Raaj Kumar Anand's resignation. NCW's team visitation prompted Sharma to hold a press conference condemning the governance.

'The shelters run by the Delhi government have become death traps for innocent people. Asha Kiran, meant for 250 people, houses 450 without adequate food, water, or medical care. Atishi should bear responsibility for the contaminated water being provided,' Sharma stated, highlighting that most deceased women were under 40 years.
