The Apex child rights body, NCPCR, on Friday demanded a detailed report regarding the recent death of a minor at Asha Kiran, a facility run by the Delhi government for mentally challenged individuals.

In July, fourteen inmates, including one child, died at the home. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has asked for immediate action and the submission of a fact-finding report within 48 hours in a letter addressed to the Delhi chief secretary.

NCPCR chairperson Priyank Kanoongo stressed the importance of preventing such incidents in the future and ensuring the safety of all children residing in such homes. The commission has requested various documents, including details of the deceased child, medical and post-mortem reports, FIR copies, case status, and the measures taken by the city government to guarantee the safety of all children presently housed at the facility.

Asha Kiran operates under the Delhi government's social welfare department, which is currently without a head following the resignation of Raaj Kumar Anand.
