MACT Tribunal Awards Compensation in Fatal Motorcycle Accident Case
The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) in Thane, Maharashtra, has granted a compensation of Rs 11.3 lakh to the family of Ramsinghasan Brijabali Sahani, a carpenter who died in a motorcycle accident in 2019. The tribunal ordered Bajaj Allianz and the truck owner to pay the amount with interest.

The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) in Thane, Maharashtra, has awarded Rs 11.3 lakh in compensation to the family of Ramsinghasan Brijabali Sahani, a 57-year-old carpenter who tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident in 2019.
MACT chairman S B Agrawal directed the owner of the errant dumper truck and Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Company Ltd to jointly and severally disburse the compensation amount with an annual interest rate of 7.5 percent from when the petition was filed. The petitioners are to receive this interest on Rs 10.4 lakh, as per the tribunal's order.
The accident occurred on June 25, 2019, when a speeding dumper truck struck Sahani's motorcycle on Sion-Trombay road, resulting in severe injuries and his subsequent death. The case proceeded ex-parte as the truck owner did not appear in court. Compensation includes Rs 10.6 lakh for loss of income, Rs 40,000 for loss of filial consortium, and Rs 15,000 each for loss of estate and funeral expenses. The judge also ordered portions of the compensation to be deposited in fixed deposits for the widow and close relatives of the deceased.
